As his client in Puerto Rico is accused of domestic abuse by the younger relative, Ricky Martin’s lawyer stated Friday that the singer never had “any type of sexual or romantic contact with his nephew.”
Martin’s attorney Marty Singer told Deadline today: “Unfortunately, the person who made this accusation is battling with serious mental health difficulties.” The Hollywood powerhouse attorney said, “Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any type of sexual or romantic connection with his nephew.” “The premise is repulsive in addition to being false.
The singer stated, “We all pray that this man receives the care he so desperately needs. But more than anything, we eagerly anticipate the judge dismissing this terrible case as soon as he or she has a chance to review the evidence.
Martin has now come under additional abuse charges and the threat of a temporary restraining order as a result of a rumored seven-month intimate involvement with the 21-year-old nephew. There will be a hearing in Puerto Rico on July 21 to discuss the allegations. Martin may receive a sentence of more than 50 years if he is found guilty of the crime of domestic assault with a relative.
These most recent allegations from the unincorporated US territory and the lawyer’s response surface as Martin, a Grammy winner and the star of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, fights an explosive $3 million lawsuit from his on-again, off-again manager Rebecca Drucker over unpaid commissions. To hasten the process, Drucker and her Venable LLP team assert that the plaintiff shielded the allegedly drug-abusing “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer from a “potentially career-ending charge in September 2020.”
Since Drucker filed her lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 29, Martin and his Lavely & Singer attorneys have remained largely silent on the matter.
Martin will co-star in the upcoming comedy Mrs. American Pie on Apple TV+ with Carol Burnett, Kristen Wiig, Josh Lucas, Allison Janney, and Leslie Bibb. But according to reports, Martin spent today in Los Angeles filming for the series that Abe Sylvia and Tate Taylor are directing. The singer’s camp called the allegations of domestic violence “absolutely baseless and concocted” after the successful motion for a TRO against CAA-repped Martin was allowed by a Puerto Rican judge earlier this month. The domestic abuse prevention and intervention act, often known as island Law 54, was the basis for the restraining order petition.
