American professional soccer club Club Internacional de Futebol Miami, also known as Inter Miami CF or just Inter Miami, is situated in the Miami metropolitan area. The team, which was founded in 2018, started competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the 2020 campaign. DRV PNK Stadium, the location of the former Lockhart Stadium in adjacent Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is where the team currently holds it’s home MLS games.
Barcelona has one of the biggest social media followings of any sports team and is one of the most well-liked teams in the entire globe. [9] [10] Johan Cruyff was one of the twelve Ballon d’Or winners for Barcelona players, and Romario, Cristiano, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho were among the seven FIFA World Player of the Year winners. In 2010, Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, and Xavi—three players who went through the club’s development system—were selected as the FIFA Ballon d’Or winners, marking a first for footballers who attended the same football academy. Members of the squad have also taken home a record eight European Golden Shoe prizes. The club’s motto, “Més que un club,” comes from its founding in 1899 by a group of football players from Switzerland, Catalonia, Germany, and England, led by Joan Gamper. The club has since come to represent Catalan culture and Catalanism (“More than a club”)
Before the game, Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville referred to the friendly encounter against Barcelona as “the biggest match in club history.” Even though Barcelona humiliated the MLS team 6-0 in Ft. Lauderdale’s DRV PNK Stadium, the home team won’t be recalling the preseason game. The Catalan club-maintained control of the match from the opening whistle to the final kick, bringing pressure in waves while Inter Miami battled to keep up. The home team, on the other hand, barely advanced and just managed a single sniff of the attacking third.
Although Robert Lewandowski wasn’t nearly ready to play, Barcelona’s other three new additions shone in the first half. Rafinha led the charge with a goal and two assists, while Andreas Christensen covered former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Franck Kessie controlled everything. In the second half, Barcelona’s subs outplayed Inter Miami’s backup squad and finished with three goals of their own. Romeo Beckham of David Beckham and Harvey Beckham of Neville came off the bench for cameos for Inter Miami, but it was only minor relief from an otherwise lopsided loss.
