Doesn’t it seem like we’ve been waiting a long time for the weekend? I, for one, am eager for the club activity to resume. The World Cup qualifiers are nice, but there are moments when you simply want to get started. When a new season begins, it takes time to find your feet and get into the swing of things. And just as the rhythm has been established, if your country calls on you for assistance, you are unable to refuse. However, it is unlikely to fit your club in the future, and it surely does not suit your management. At the moment, international football has taken centre stage. Perhaps the sabbatical from club football occurred at an inopportune moment. So, because there is never a terrible moment for a healthy argument, let’s get started.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea will rekindle their interest in Sevilla defender Jules Kunde as their pursuit of Manchester City’s Nathan Ake appears to be unravelling. Chelsea will make another offer to the La Liga club for Kunde since the Blues are hesitant to pay City’s £50 million asking price for the 27-year-old Ake.

Despite the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Kunde served as a backup option for new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly as the club sought Matthijs de Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Ake as Thomas Tuchel seeks to rebuild his team’s defence in the summer window.

Chelsea is likely to compete with Barcelona for 23-year-old Kunde, who is allegedly valued at £56 million, following the arrival of Koulibaly in a €40 million deal from Napoli. The Catalan club has apparently reached an agreement on personal terms with the France international, who made 32 LaLiga appearances for Sevilla last season.

The France international has 11 senior caps for his country and a perfect injury record, having played 184 games across all club competitions in the previous four seasons with no severe injuries. Chelsea will mostly compete against Barcelona, who has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Kunde and are willing to move Memphis Depay or Sergio Dest in order to finalise a deal. Barcelona may be unable to fund the trade unless Sevilla are willing to accept a player back, given their £65 million deal for Raphinha and pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.
