Is Binge drinking is worse for your health than a daily drink

The use of alcohol as a coping mechanism is commonly encouraged in society. People frequently advise each other just to “loosen up with such a glass of wine” at the end of the day, for the occasion. Because some individuals think that alcohol and specific foods go well together, phrases like “pizza and beer” and “wine and cheese” are frequently used.

How often would you like to drink alcohol? If you consider yourself a regular drinker, there is a greater than average chance that you may binge drink.

According to a recent study, moderate drinkers, who are defined as those who take one drink per day over a week, account for 70&% of cases of excessive drinking, where people consume a day’s pints of beer in a single session.

The research’s co-author asserts that emphasizing average consumption alone hides underlying drinking behaviors. The study was announced in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

A survey of more than 1,200 drinkers 30 and older was undertaken between 2004 and 2005 and again in 2015 and 2016, dividing drinkers into mild and moderate categories. Over 80% of people who had alcohol problems over the study period were moderate drinkers, the researchers found.

The likelihood of having alcohol-related health issues was five times higher in the group of binge drinkers.

The key takeaway is that a person’s amount of alcohol, not their frequency, determines whether they have issues.

Researchers advise focusing public health initiatives on moderate drinkers.
