Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of the brain which makes loose control on the stability of the body. This affects the stability of the body in patients causing stiffness, shaking, and unbalanced movements. Parkinson’s is an age related disease seen mostly in the men around the age groups of 50-60 years.
New important step in stem therapy by Chinese scientists
The Chinese scientists team had recently spoken out on the new technique that can improve the potency of the treatment in the mice study. Stem cell therapy seems to have an effective potential in the treatment process of the disease because it is only targeted to a certain type of cells in the brain to lose the action and control.
The team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences had said that improving a targeted stem cell can help in better treatment of the Parkinson’s disease. In the process of their research they had identified a pair of damaged cell surface markers of dopamine which are damaged due to the disease. They have tried to inject a new set of dopamine markers into the mice and found out that the surface markers of dopamine were increased in the mid brain region of the mice. vitamin k2 has a remarkable effect in inhibiting the 6-Hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) is a nerve agent that causes degeneration of dopamine neurons on the neuron surfaces.
This was a revolutionary step in the advancement of safety and potency of stem cell therapy. Parkinson’s is generally a degenerative neurological disorder characterized with bradykinesia, postural instability. This is the second most common neurological disorder after the Alzheimer’s disease.

There are almost 10 million people affected by Parkinson’s disease in the world in which china could hold half of its number by the end of 2030. Stem cell therapy can be the most effective way to treat Parkinson’s disease. The replacement of one stem cell which is destroyed will be way more easy because the target cell of treatment is already known.
The Chinese scientists had developed a single-cell sequencing of dopaminergic neurons that can regenerate the lost markers. They also found a way to obtain pure Gentic markers from the donors to treat the diseased.
How is it diagnosed?
The diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease is purely clinical which involves recording symptoms, checking previous records of diagnosis and treatment. Some laboratory tests are possible to screen but they cannot give accurate results.
How is it treated?
There are various treatment processes of the disease which include medications and stimulant therapies. The targets of the medications will be Adenosine blocking, stimulating dopamine. Some of these drugs are used to treat specific symptoms of Parkinson’s disease like
- sleeplessness
- fatigue
- constipation
- Sexual dysfunction
- Anxiety and depression
- psychosis and hallucinations
Stem cell transplants, gene therapy, deep cell stimulation are some other methods to treat Parkinson’s disease. This is not a curable disease so patients are requested to use medications life long. It is not fatal but can decrease a few years of your lifetime.
