In a press conference held on Friday by the Union Health Ministry, information related to the corona virus epidemic in the country was given. The Joint Secretary of the Ministry gave information about the new cases, vaccination and Omicron in the country here. ICMR Director General Dr. Balram Bhargava and NITI Aayog member VK Paul were also present here.
The positivity rate of corona virus infection in the country was 0.73 percent last week and less than 10 thousand cases of infection were reported in the last 14 days. Of the total active patients in the country, 43 percent are in Kerala. This information was given by Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary from the Union Health Ministry in a press conference on Friday.
During this, Luv Aggarwal also talked about the status of the new Omicron variant of Corona in the country. He said that so far a total of 25 cases of infection with the Omicron variant have been reported in India. Mild symptoms have been seen in all these patients. This is less than 0.04 percent of all known variants of the corona virus.
It is necessary to constantly follow the standards of public health
Agarwal said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the standards of public health should be followed consistently even after vaccination. Appropriate steps have to be taken for rescue. The WHO said, if for any reason the standards of public health are relaxed, then cases of infection in Europe may increase.
Where there is more positivity, there should be restrictions: Dr. Bhargava
At the same time, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava, who was present in the press conference, said that India and the global situation regarding Omicron are being monitored and meetings are being held. We need help to escape the chaos. Where the positivity rate is more than five percent, restrictions should be imposed at the district level.
Vaccine and mask both necessary for protection: Dr. Paul
NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul said that as far as security capabilities are concerned, at this point of time we are working at an alarming and unacceptable level. The use of masks is continuously decreasing. We have to remember that both the vaccine and the mask are necessary. He said that we should take lessons from the global situation.
He said that having an S-gene drop could be a possible indicator of Omicron. There have been only a few cases of Omicron, we are just learning about it. We are verifying Omicron only by doing genome sequencing, that will be our approach.
Central government is paying full attention to monitoring and investigation
He said that work is being done for surveillance, effective screening, monitoring of international travelers and upgradation of health sector infrastructure. States have been asked to increase surveillance and proactively check every passenger coming from outside countries. Omicron is believed to be a far more contagious variant.
So far 2936 confirmed cases of Omicron in 59 countries
The Joint Health Secretary said that as of November 24, only two countries had reported cases of infection from Omicron. Now the number of such countries has gone up to 59. So far, 2936 cases of Omicron have been reported in these 59 countries. Apart from this, 78,054 probable cases have also been reported, whose genome sequencing is being done.
